GPS or Global Positioning System is a navigation and location tracking system made up of more than 24 satellites orbiting the atmospheric regions of Earth. The system was first established for use by the military but was soon made available to the public during the late 1980s, without any subscription fees or setup charges.

Now, you can harness the power of this satellite system using GPS Navigational and Tracking devices to identify, track and even log the exact location of your device and plot it on an electronic map. The system can even help you plan the best route to get to a particular destination, as well as process other important information such as speed, bearing, distance, exact time and a whole lot more.

Understanding the Difference between GPS Navigators and GPS Tracking Devices

GPS Navigators are used to identify your exact location on a 2D or 3D digital map complete with street information, landmarks and other directional information to help you identify where you are at that precise moment or help you get to an unfamiliar destination.

GPS navigators are usually installed fixtures on a car or boat, but there are now portable GPS navigators that are not only very affordable but are small and compact enough to take along with you anywhere you go. Aside from that, these GPS navigation device are packed with other features such as multimedia players and Internet browsers.

GPS tracking devices on the other hand use the GPS system to determine the exact location of your vehicle, person or property where a tracking device has been attached to. The device can record and store its position based on preset intervals or it can transmit this information to your location on a database server for later retrieval.

The Different Types and Functions of GPS Tracking Devices

* GPS Trackers

The GPS tracker is also known as a GPS data pusher or a GPS beacon and is used to track the exact location of an asset or property, a person or a vehicle that you would like to monitor. The device pushes or sends information like exact location, speed, altitude and time to a recipient server at regular intervals for later analysis. This device is small enough that you can place it at hidden locations within a person or an asset that you are tracking.

There are several functions and uses for GPS trackers most common of which is for law enforcement by authorities on surveillance and monitoring work for criminal activities. Private investigators use these devices extensively to track down the whereabouts and behavioral pattern of family members and spouses.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

If you plan to be a reseller of these devices, you can make good business marketing them to private individuals making use of GPS trackers to track down assets such as animals, valuable artifacts and vehicles they own. You can also market these to business owners, courier companies, taxi companies, and rent-a-car owners use this to track the location and route patterns of their fleet in real time.

* GPS Trackers with SOS Calling Capabilities

GPS Trackers can also be equipped with a mobile phone facility and are capable of sending tracking signals at regular intervals or even make SOS calls or SMS messages through a GSM network during times of distress. The mobile phone and GPS device is usually powered by the same battery and operates using commonly available GPS tracking software.

As a reseller or if you are planning to be one, you can tap into this growing market by featuring the convenient safety benefits it can give for caregivers and families with elderly people or loved ones with special disabilities or diseases. You can also market this to parents who would like to monitor their teenage children without giving them excessive restrictions.

* GPS Logger

A GPS logger is similar to a GPS tracker in the sense that they both track and record the GPS locations of the vehicle or asset the device is attached to. The difference is a GPS tracker can be monitored in real time using transmitted data to a central server, while with a GPS logger you can attach the device without following the target at all times then retrieve the device or its internal memory which you can download or analyze on a PC.

A reseller of GPS loggers can tap into a wide market for people and organizations needing the capabilities of these devices. Photographers make use of a GPS logger to correlate a photo that was taken to the time and accurate location in the GPS log data. Hunters, birdwatchers, foresters and conservationists make use of GPS loggers as wildlife trackers to track down migration and other behavioral patterns.

Civil engineers and surveyors can also make use of the GIS or Geographic Information System usually integrated with GPS loggers to analyze data which are linked to the location they are surveying. These devices can also be marketed to farmers and ranch owners to monitor domestic or pedigree livestock particularly highly-priced pregnant females.

* GPS Location Finder

A GPS-enabled location finder is similar to a GPS tracker or a receiver; with the only difference that location finders only works in an instant, like finding your way back to your parked car in an unfamiliar neighborhood, or finding your way back from a campsite or hunting grounds. This would be a good device to market to field sales agents, campers, hunters, birdwatchers and other people who are always on the go or travelling to remote locations.

* GPS Photo Tagger

A GPS photo tagger, or what is also known as a geotagger, is somewhat different in core function from a GPS tracker although it has some similarities with a GPS logger in the sense that photographers can correlate a photo with the exact time and location recorded in the GPS log data. These are often marketed to photographers, surveyors, real estate agents and archaeologists who need time and location information to correlate with photos taken.

If you have a digital cameras equipped with a GPS receiver, you can use a GPS photo tagger to automatically tag each photos you take with GPS data. The photo tagger and stores this data in the EXIF or Exchangeable Image File Format header of the photo taken.

Understanding GPS Jammers and What They Do

GPS jammers are devices that can block the frequencies or radio waves used by a GPS tracking device and prevent them from sending out location and other information about the car, person or asset where the GPS tracking device was attached.

Small enough to hide inside a pocket or hand bags, GPS jammers are sold to people who value their privacy against third parties, or even the authorities, monitoring their location and habitual patterns. The device is a good deterrent against private investigators using GPS tracking device without your consent. However, these devices can also be used by unscrupulous courier drivers wanting to hide their whereabouts from their fleet managers or owners.

You may have considered a trip into a national park that is nearby and perhaps even wanted to stay over for a couple nights, camping under the stars and sitting around camp fires while enjoying your natural surroundings. The thought of going there still requires a bit of planning and some aid to help you get around and make sure you don’t get lost in there. A good map will also help you to pick out good trails to take so that you can experience the best places in the park. Even if you plan to camp out there it is the ideal way to pick out good camping spots so that you don’t have to worry about shelter or bad weather. Even if you are just going to be in the park for a day, you can plot out all the good spots, measure out the distance and determine if you will manage to see all of them in one day.

Fortunately, you can all the places you are looking for by finding them on a single map. You can use a single application on your phone loaded with national Park trail maps to give you every bit of information you need to get where you want to be. The latest maps can be downloaded from any one of the sites that offer them online, and you can get the latest versions to make sure that you don’t get the wrong readings or end up in the wrong place. Once you have the maps loaded to your phone or GPS, you can access the information that you need to pick out the good spots, mark out routes and calculate the distance you are going to travel to get there. You can work out how fast you will be going then calculate the time it will take you to get from one place to the next. Good routes are hard to find, especially when you do not know the park. If you can afford to hire a guide to help you get around then by all means it is what you should do, but if you can’t or you prefer to do things on your own then you will need to learn how to read the maps and make them work for you.

No matter where you live and which national park is closest to you, there is a map available that has all the information you need to make your next trip to the park a memorable on you will never forget.

A common problem with Android devices across the board seems to be the performance of the GPS. Despite the different devices and manufactures, this is a common complaint among Android owners and unfortunately the root cause can be different depending on the device. The GPS signal on Android devices can be very intermittent and sometimes drops the signal or has trouble locking on. Here are some tips to help resolve this problem.

Clear Your Map Cache

Depending on which navigation app you use, such as Google Maps, you can clear your map cache to help get a better lock and faster response time when using GPS. You can find and clear your cache by going to Manage Applications and under Menu choose Filter -> Show All. This will list all apps on your device. Choose each app that uses GPS and clear its cache.

If this does not clear up the problem, it may be an issue with the connection data itself. Your device may not have the correct information to connect to the satellites necessary to use GPS, which is causing the connection problem.

Use Assisted GPS

Assisted GPS (AGPS) is used by most smart phones these days and is a method of using cell towers to assist in locating your signal. This method of location is less precise than true GPS locating, but is faster because your GPS module does not need to connect to a satellite before it can begin to locate you. Assisted GPS is also helpful if you do not have clear skies and cannot get in contact with a satellite.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Assisted GPS will also make use of available Wi-Fi networks to help pinpoint your location which can dramatically change the amount of time it takes to provide your position.

To enable assisted GPS on your Android device, go to Settings -> Location & Security Settings and check the checkbox for Enable Assisted GPS.

Note that Assisted GPS will constantly be searching for and connecting to cell towers while this feature is on, creating a noticeable drain on your battery. This is most likely a feature you do not want to always leave enabled but is definitely helpful when you are using your device for navigation.

If you are still having trouble with your GPS after turning AGPS on, you can try resetting your Assisted GPS Data.

Using GPS Status & Toolbox

Sometimes the problem continues because the data for towers and satellites that your phone holds is incorrect for your location. The GPS Status & Toolbox is an app available in the Android market and is used to wipe out and re-download the AGPS data. This can help your device acquire the correct towers and get up-to-date satellite information. Once you have downloaded the app, here are the steps to get your new data:

When you start the app, you will see a compass and the data statistics for your phone. Be sure you have an active data connection.
Go to Manage A-GPS State.
Click Download in the menu.
Exit the app when it is finished.

This will remove all of the old Wi-Fi and satellite information in your device and download the most pertinent data for your current location. You should now check your navigation app to see if you can get a location lock. After this process it should be much quicker.

The downside to this process is that you will most likely need to repeat it on a regular basis. Any time your GPS begins to act up, you will need to download new AGPS data using the GPS Status & Toolbox app. Annoying but a small price to pay for your navigation to work correctly.

If your GPS is still not working correctly after downloading new AGPS data, your only recourse may be to root your phone and flash a new ROM or radio to your device. This can make your GPS more reliable as some ROMs have configuration tweaks that can be used to make the radio work better. While this step may be extreme for some in order to fix their GPS and it can be a bit riskier, it can sometimes make your device work better, if you are prepared to deal with the consequences of rooting your device to make it happen.

Hopefully by working through these steps you are able to obtain a better GPS signal and a faster lock. Remember that if your device continues to act up you may need to continue using the GPS Status & Toolbox app to reset your connection data. Since this problem seems worse in some Android devices than others, you may also want to look into changing devices if you cannot get the GPS to work reliably.

Data loggers are device used that record and measure analog and / or digital inputs from sensors or other instruments from a remote location or accessible/local data logger. Typically these sensors will measure contact switch, magnetic switch, and environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, pressure, flow, level, wind speed, wind direction, and many other physical properties.

Small compact high efficiency battery powered data logger for use in remote locations or in application where low power long operational lifetime, weight and available space are critical factor in such device as weather station, gas and pipelines.

High Multi-Channel Multi-Purpose data logger, usually AC powered with backup DC power source to store large amounts of data from many external sensors and inputs.

Most types of data logger come with custom software to manually and/or automatically download data to a PC, show the results in graph and table format, and export data to Excel, Access, and SQL, MySQL, Oracle and other database applications. The proprietary software is also used to program the data logger for sample rate, and logging duration. Data is usually downloaded directly from the data logger to the PC or alerts send from data logger to smartphone.  However with many types of data logger data download can also be achieved remotely using Ethernet, low power radio, GSM, GPRS or telephone lines. Some data logger models also publish their data direct to websites.

Kreatit Design has been actively involved in the data logger monitoring market for more than 9 years and has supplied all data logger types for a vast range of applications. They include:

BindAlert for use in homes, businesses, and cottages. Kreatit Design line of BindAlert uses data logging features to monitoring individual sensors and control devices to replace the old outdated security alarm.  In fact, Kreatit Design new BindAlert now transmit alerts via wireless modem along with the usual method (email and internet) of sending alerts to monitoring centers, home owners, and neighbours.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Fleet/Vehicle trackers are now equipped with sensor to monitor numerous devices which include features such as revolutions/minute, fuel pump meter, environmental monitoring, and other features.

For weather station, consider a DC power source with backup battery having a lifetime operation of at least 2 years.  The type of enclosure is important to the environment.  Keep in mind metal, aluminum, IP67, IP65, IP68, and others.  These entire features should be taken into consideration along with solar power or DC power source.

In conclusion a data logger in many applications is a far more effective means of recording measurements and activity than a man with a clip board or traditional recording instruments such as chart recorders.

And if you are like most of the men and women I know you would not even have the ability to get around if you did not have one of these. But now there’s a new invention that’s going to help individuals with motorcycles find their way around. The new product we are talking about has been made by Garmin and what we’re going to be looking at it in this post.

If you have a motorcycle you probably love just hopping on and taking a ride on a nice day. But many people would not be able to leave the roads that they usually take for fear that they’d wind up getting lost. If you have a motorcycle you already know the freedom that comes with this sort of transportation. In fact the only real thing wrong by having a motorcycle is that unless you understand where you’re going, you would not want to just get on and just start riding.

But, now there’s a new GPS unit that has been built with motorcycle enthusiasts in mind. And just in case you are wondering you will find that this device has a touch screen built in. Most men and women who ride motorcycles wear gloves, and mainly because this touch screen can be used with gloves this isn’t going to be a concern. This means you’ll not need to take off your gloves while you’re riding to discover where you are. This is really a great feature to be added to this product as it can become extremely annoying to need to take off your gloves to do things while you are riding.

You are going to also discover that the controls on this product are meant for left handed use. This is really a great features simply because a motorcycle rider needs to keep his right hand around the throttle at all times. The unit also is included with all the hardware that you are going to need to mount this to your motorcycle. The bright display and also the fact that this screen is in fact 4.3 inches makes this perfect for outdoor use. Another thing I wanted to mention, mainly because it’s actually incredibly unique to a product like this is the wind direction and speed sensor that they put into this product.

There are lots of more features which come with this product that we just don’t have time to speak about in this article. Amazon actually has an intensive description of this item, if you would like to read about more of the characteristics that this item has. You will also discover that almost all of the men and women who have invested in this device has given it a five out of five star rating. So if you own a motorcycle I would strongly recommend the Garmin zumo 660 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Motorcycle Navigator that will help you with all your navigational needs.

All great inventions begin with an idea, and as the person who came up with the idea, you want not only proper credit, but protection as well. In order to secure your interests, it is important to patent your idea so no one else can take credit for your unique invention.

Where to Start

Many people are unsure how to move from idea to patent and where to even begin. Prior to beginning the official patent application process, there are preliminary steps you can take to secure your idea. The completion of an Official Record of Invention will put you on the path to your very own patented invention. In order then to officially apply for a patent, the first step in the process is to fill out an application and before you begin your patent application, it is in your best interest to speak with professionals who can guide you through the process. Many inventors may not realize that an overwhelming number of patent applications are rejected for a variety of reasons. A lack of understanding of how the patent process works is one of the most common downfalls for new inventors who are trying to copyright an idea. Highly skilled professionals at a reputable patent agency are well-versed in the ins and outs of the patent process, and their knowledge will be a benefit to you in saving time, money and disappointment as you work to protect your unique idea.

google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;

Patent Applications

Patent applications must be filed through the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and is a slow, lengthy process requiring time and attention in order to get the approval you are seeking. All too often, inventors attempt to go through the process unassisted and are met with the disappointment of rejection. Legal staff of licensed Patent Practitioners at a reputable patent agency will have a great deal of experience processing patent applications and possess the knowledge and skills needed to help you find success with your application the first time around.
