Tracking devices
We’re talking now about what one could only see in the movies until recently. A car chase is going on and the police officers in one car suddenly throw what appears a tiny piece of metal on to the car under chase and a monitor in another van comes alive with the directions of the car being chased and the movements are followed and recorded with ease. Well, this is reality now with the advent of gps tracking technology.
A gps is actually a navigating system that is used to tell you the user where you are or give you directions for an intended destination. A tracking device is as the name suggests used to find the whereabouts of something or someone being tracked. Combine the two technologies and a gps tracking device emerges where all it takes may be a magnetic chip of a piece of metal.
Taking the car chasing example, a small piece of metal may be installed in the car and satellites in space automatically pick up the signal waves that the device is now emanating and the movements of the vehicle in question emerges on a computer screen. Another type of chip that is more of a magnetic strip can be placed near the engine of the car or anywhere else inconspicuous and the movements tracked. This comes in especially handy when illegal activities may be suspected, the law enforcers have the authority to place a tracking device on the vehicle in question instead of tediously following them around and wasting precious petroleum.
This also helps in reducing other things like car theft, and for the parent who has a new teenager on the road, a tracking device may be installed so that they have turn by turn detailed reports of the child’s whereabouts, the child of course may not like that but it is question of parental safety. This also makes the teenager a better and more careful driver in the future.
Of course, the magnetic tracker can be attached without the drivers’ knowledge but this is only allowed by law enforcement bodies and certainly not allowed or recommended as a leisure activity. The best part is all the bad guys can be caught in minutes and they won’t even be able to deny as all the data is downloaded from the satellites and stored for easy reference at any time!
